Supplying Graphics

lz

If you are supplying digital files we can provide you with an FTP upload link, email them if they are less than 2MB total, you can drop off images, or you can ship them to us.

Fonts are always an issue so please supply files that do not require a font file on our system. In graphics programs you can do this by "outlining" text or "rasterizing" text. JPEG files do not require fonts and are always great to supply as a proof for what your file should look like.

Resolution should be at least 300 dpi for photo images, and resolution for all other files and scans should be at least 600 dpi. Your images dimensions should be 100% of their final printed size.

Software & Comparability

lz

We usually print from Corel Draw X3 because it is most versatile. CAD files to Offset Printing files.

Our favorite files are Adobe Illustrator (CS3 and earlier) native files. "Image.ai" for example. Remember to outline those fonts! If you can eliminate line weights (type with unnecessary outlines for example) please do so. Line weights less than 1 point can produce unexpected results.

Our metal imaging process is monochromatic but color image files are perfectly acceptable. Colors will default to their grayscale equivalent.

Files and File Formats
Please provide " graphic image files" rather than layout programs with imported graphic files. For example, a MicroSoft Word document or Publisher file will work great on your system but they fail to display fonts or graphics when provided to us.

CAD Files

- Vector Images

Our first choice in graphic files!

Vector files provide:
- small file size
- the most flexibility when importing
- crisp clean lines and the ability to choose resolution
- the ability to easily alter shapes within the graphic layout
- the most predictable results when printing

Tips --------------------------

Keep it simple with fonts, common-everyday fonts are what your viewer expects and can read most easily.

Vector graphics have fill and stroke weights.

The best files will be supplied from Adobe Illustrator, or Corel Draw

- Raster images
-   We use raster images all the time, for best results we must convert them to smooth vector graphics.
These files are photosgraphic (photos) and are resolution dependant. They can cause fuzzy images if not handeled properly.
-   Digital cameras and desktop scanners create raster images.

- photographic (raster) images are sufficient at 300 dpi
if unsure supply at original size. All scans are raster images. If the image supplies dpi/resolution then it is also raster.

- the best files will be supplied from Adobe Photoshop, or Corel Draw and be "vector" images.

The very best file format to supply is an Adobe Illustrator (.ai) file with fonts outlined (no fonts please!). Avoid using stroked outlines (aka line-weight, or strokes) on shapes if you can.

Best native file formats:
